PhotoSynth Competition Rules

DEADLINE: Closing deadline for submissions is the 22nd March 2010.

ENTRY to the competition is FREE. Entrants do not have to be residents of Europe. An eligible entrant must be an individual and agree to abide by these terms and conditions.

SUBMISSION ENTRIES
Each entrant can submit up to a maximum of five Photosynths. The PhotoSynth must be uploaded onto www.photosynth.net using a valid Microsoft LiveID. Any entry submitted must be the entrant's own work.  A link to the entrants photosynth must then be submitted via the www.digimalta.com website using the entrants digimalta website logon credentials.

THEME of the competition is a celebration of Malta’s natural and cultural heritage.

SUBJECT: Entries must be of a Maltese nature – Architecture, temples, churches, landscapes and details. The photographs must have been taken within the geographical boundaries of Malta.

AGE GROUPS

  • Adults (16 years old and up) including University Students, Hobbyists and professional photographers.
  • The Young Crew (15 years old and under) - Entrants must have the permission of a parent, guardian or teacher.

Very important:
Do not include your name in the picture (i.e. in the frame or in the picture itself) or in the caption or title for the image. These images will not be eligible for the voting!

CONSENT & COPYRIGHT

The entrant must be the sole author and owner of the copyright. By entering your photosynth into the competition, you grant to Microsoft the non-commercial non-exclusive right to use your images for promotion of the online photosynth competition and for promotion of the MICROSOFT DIGITAL HERITAGE project in any media. Should MICROSOFT want to use awarded images for commercial publications, this will only be done with prior written consent by the photographer and for a reproduction fee. The photographer will be credited whenever possible. Entrants must not infringe on the privacy rights, copyright or other rights of any person.

DIGITAL CRITERIA

Digital adjustments are only acceptable if limited to minor cleaning work, levels, curves, colour, saturation and contrast work.
The faithful representation of what you saw at the time of the shot being taken must be maintained. Cropping is allowed. Sandwich shots, double exposures and photographs which consist in any way of more than one separate photograph are not eligible in this category.

JUDGING

PhotoSynths are pre-selected by a panel of 3 MICROSOFT nominated judges and a winner will be announced on the last day of each month.  The winner will be notified via email and the synth place as the highlight of the month on the website homepage at www.digimalta.com

WINNERS will be notified by email and displayed on the competition page. Each monthly winner goes into the draw for the GRAND FINALE photo competition in March 2010.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Where necessary relevant permits to comply with national or international legislation must be obtained by the entrant in order to photograph the subject.  MICROSOFT, by no means is granting permission to take photos at heritage sites and it is the responsibility of the entrant to obtain such permission by the appropriate means and regular channels.

OUR RIGHTS MICROSOFT reserves the right to exclude entrants and withhold prizes for violating any of these terms and conditions. Should the quality of entries fall below the standard required we reserve the right not to award prizes. MICROSOFT reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions.

INDEMNITY MICROSOFT is not responsible for failure of receipt, loss or damage of any photographs entered in the competition. Entrants indemnify MICROSOFT and their sponsors of any responsibility in respect to damage and loss to entrant’s belongings; death or injury as a result of the competition.

The judge’s decision is final and prizes can’t be exchanged.
